This module will provide instruction in microbiology, disease transmission, disinfection, and sterilization techniques. This knowledge will allow you to have the ability to implement the policies and procedures necessary to protect yourself and the patients you serve.
This module is designed to prepare the expanded function dental assistant with the very important function of taking accurate preliminary impressions and bite registrations for use as study models or working casts.
This module will include the expanded function dental assistant duties of coronal polishing, placement of topical fluorides and the placement of pit and fissure sealants.
This module will include placing and removing dental dams, placing and removing matrices. It will also include placing topical medications, bases and liners. It will also include placing and removing periodontal dressings and suture removal.
This module will include the skills in fabrication of posterior, anterior and multiple unit temporaries. It will include the placement of retraction cord, placement of temporaries along with removal of excess cement.
All necessary supplies and materials will be provided. It is highly recommended that a dental assisting text be purchased, borrowed or checked out from a library to enhance your learning experience and the basic principles being taught. Listed are some suggested texts, there are many other good dental assisting books available also.
Modern Dental Assisting, Robinson and Bird, eighth or ninth edition Dental Assisting, A Comprehensive Approach, Phinney and Halstead, second or third edition.
