Lake Area Technical College’s Aviation Program Expands to Include Pilot Degree

WATERTOWN, SD – The Aviation program at Lake Area Technical College has expanded and is now including a Professional Fixed Wing Pilot Associate of Applied Science degree in addition to the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. Applications are now being accepted for the 18-month program. Enrollment is limited.
Lake Area Tech is the only two-year college in South Dakota at which students can obtain this degree in an affordable and short-term program. Beginning in Fall 2019, students in the Professional Fixed Wing Pilot will be trained in the areas of: aerodynamics, private pilot simulation, private pilot flight training, private pilot ground school, aviation safety, federal air regulations, instrument rating ground/simulation/flight, commercial pilot ground/flight training, instrument instructor ground/flight training, airspace systems, airspace operations, and flight instructor ground/flight training. The program will utilize the Watertown Regional Airport and Lake Area Technical College training facilities for flight training.
