WATERTOWN – Lake Area Technical College is inviting the public to attend one of two upcoming meetings to discuss the long-term development of its Watertown campus. The meetings will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Thursday, Jan. 23, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in Room 1211 of the new archway building at Lake Area Tech.

President Tiffany Sanderson said the meetings are an important step in a master planning process that began months ago.

“Lake Area Tech has been working collaboratively with students, staff and community members to develop a strategic master plan for our campus,” Sanderson said. “Our next step is sharing what we learned with community members, especially our neighbors in northeast Watertown, and collect additional feedback.”

Sanderson emphasized that several factors are being considered as the college looks to the future, including potential enrollment growth, expansion of specialized programs, facility needs and improvements to green space and infrastructure.

“Our goal is to provide skilled workers for South Dakota’s workforce. As these workforce needs grow, we must proactively plan for strategic and sustainable campus growth,” she said. “We encourage all community members to attend, share their ideas, and contribute to shaping the future of Lake Area Tech.”

Lake Area Tech was established in 1965 as South Dakota’s first accredited technical school. It now offers more than 30 programs, including hybrid and online E-degrees. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and currently serves more than 2,600 students.
