Carla is a graduate of Northern State University with a double major in elementary education and special education. She also earned an early childhood special ed endorsement. Her experience includes birth to 6th grade instruction for 10 years and she was an AEL instructor for five years for Black Hills Special Services. Carla and her husband Mark live in Brookings. Together they have seven children and thirteen grandchildren.
