Lake Area Technical College Named a 2017 Military Friendly® School
For Immediate Release
November 10, 2016
WATERTOWN, SD – For the seventh consecutive year, Lake Area Technical College has been designated a 2017 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media. Each year, the list of Military Friendly® Schools is provided to service members and their families, helping them select the best college, university, or trade school to receive the education and training needed to pursue a civilian career.
Lake Area Technical College President and retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Mike Cartney said, “It is an honor to be named to the Military Friendly Schools list. It comes with a lot of pride knowing that what we are doing here at Lake Area Technical College is benefiting our veterans. They are taking another huge step in their lives and making career decisions that may have been delayed as they served our country. It is a big transition for them and we are here to make it easier.”
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from Victory Media’s proprietary survey. More than 1,600 schools participated in the 2017 survey; 1,160 were awarded the designation. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Now in its eighth year, the original, premier Military Friendly® Schools designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities. First published in 2009, Military Friendly® Schools is the most comprehensive, powerful resource for veterans today. Lake Area Technical College will be showcased along with other 2017 Military Friendly® Schools in the annual Guide to Military Friendly® Schools, special education issues of G.I. Jobs® and Military Spouse Magazine, and on www.MilitaryFriendly.com .
