LATC Esports Advances to Super Regional Championship in Dramatic Fashion

The Lake Area Technical College (LATC) Esports team is making waves in their inaugural season, as the Rainbow Six Siege squad triumphed in their opening playoff match against State Tech from Linn, Missouri, with a decisive 2-0 victory. This win was especially sweet, avenging a regular season loss to the same opponent.

State Tech had the home-field advantage, selecting Chalet as their preferred map. Despite this, LATC dominated, winning the map 7-3. Head Coach LeBlanc praised the team’s performance, stating, “It’s always a huge advantage if you can defeat a team on their chosen map. They’ve picked it for a reason — they’ve practiced it, studied it, and usually have an edge. Our communication and strategy on Chalet really paid off.”

With momentum on their side, LATC entered the second map, Clubhouse, ready for battle. The match was a nail-biter, pushing both teams to their limits. After splitting overtime rounds, LATC sealed the deal with a thrilling 8-7 victory in overtime.

The victory propels LATC into the Super Regional Conference 1 Playoff Championship against the formidable Laredo Palominos. Laredo, hailing from Texas, boasts a 7-1 record, their sole loss coming at the hands of LATC earlier in the season. Coach LeBlanc acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying, “It’s always tough to beat a team twice in a season, especially one as talented as the Palominos. We’ll need to be at our absolute best.”

The championship match will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. Fans can catch the action live on Twitch or cheer on the team in person at the LATC Esports Arena. The stakes are high — the winner will claim the Super Regional Conference 1 title and secure a coveted spot at Nationals.

Coach LeBlanc expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments: “This is our first year, our first semester, and we’re already competing at this level. We’re a young team, but the growth we’ve seen has been incredible. We’re excited to see how far we can go.”
