As Lake Area Technical College’s esports teams wrap up an action-packed regular season, excitement is building on campus and beyond! The Super Smash Brothers team and the Rainbow Six Siege team are both primed for intense playoff matchups, with fans rallying behind their players and coaches, confident that LATC is ready to shine on the national stage.
First up, Gabe Gebhard, a 1st-year OTA student leading the Super Smash Brothers team, has proven his resilience and skill this season. Despite a close 3-1 loss against Wichita State in his final regular-season game, Gabe’s matches went back and forth, showing the kind of tenacity that could carry him far in the playoffs. Coach LeBlanc shared, “Gabe’s consistent improvement each week is setting him up well for the playoffs,” adding that his determination and quick reflexes could give him the edge in the upcoming double-elimination tournament. The first playoff match will be held on Tuesday, November 19th at 7 PM, and fans are eagerly waiting to see Gabe’s continued journey.
Meanwhile, LATC’s Rainbow Six Siege team is on fire! Last Friday, the Siege squad delivered a commanding performance against Northwest College from Powell, Wyoming, showing everyone why they’re a top contender this season. LATC took down their opponents with decisive victories on the Clubhouse map, winning 7-1, and followed it up with an even more spectacular 7-0 win on the Chalet map. Their impressive victory not only secured their playoff spot but also earned them the number-one seed in their division! Coach LeBlanc is thrilled with the team’s recent form, saying, “The Siege team has really settled into their roles over the last two weeks, which is exactly what we need going into the playoffs.”
This Friday, the Siege team will face Bevill State Community College out of Alabama in their final regular season game at 7 PM. With a 4-2 record, Bevill State needs a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, making this an intense showdown with high stakes for both teams. LATC fans can catch the game on Twitch or join the live excitement at the LATC arena on campus.
