Why did you choose Lake Area Technical College? When I graduated High School, I was not sure what I wanted to do. I was always interested in administration as I like to plan events, organize meetings, etc. I decided Lake Area Technical College was for me as it was close to home, had the program I was interested in, and at the time, I could transfer to USD as a Junior Business Major which was something I was interested in.
What was your favorite thing about Lake Area Technical College? I liked the class to teacher ratio and how the teachers seemed to really care about students and wanted them to succeed. I also was exposed to many opportunities while at Lake Area Technical College. I also loved dance classes with Carl Tesch, then Diesel Instructor! There was always so much to do and I liked being active.
What was the biggest lesson you learned at Lake Area Technical College? I actually was hired at Lake Area Technical College after graduation and I worked in the Alumni and Foundation office. I had an excellent mentor/supervisor who was an English Teacher and taught me so much about writing, marketing, etc. Speech class also stands out in mind. I learned so much from my instructor on presenting to an audience, speech content, etc. I also was exposed to so many new opportunities and new areas. I attribute my education and work experience at Lake Area Technical College to where I am today as the Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
What made you want to continue your education? The workforce can be a tough place when it comes to career advancement. I knew additional education after high school was a must. And, when I graduated Lake Area Technical College, they gave me my first job which gave me a good solid base of knowledge which has helped me advance to my current position today.
What advice would you give a current Lake Area Technical College student? I would encourage all students to make the most of your time at Lake Area Technical College. Explore activities and opportunities, make friends, and stay focused. Lake Area Technical College is a top notch school.
What makes you proud to be an Alumni of Lake Area Technical College? I always knew Lake Area Technical College was an outstanding school and that was confirmed when they were chosen as the top school in the nation via the Aspen Award!
What advice can you give to Lake Area Technical College students that will be entering the work force? I would advise students to stay in touch with your instructors. They are a great resource as you are for them too. Put your knowledge to good use and be proud of your education!
