Rebecca Grassel – Alumni Profile
Rebecca Grassel, Woonsocket, SD
Cosmetology – Class of 2005
Why did you choose Lake Area Tech? I chose Lake Area Tech because it had the leading Cosmetology program and instructors in South Dakota. I also chose to go there because Watertown is a safe and inviting town to call home for a young adult. Both my mother and father also are LATI alumni.
Where are you employed today? R.G. Beauty & Body Spa
When was the last time you visited Lake Area Tech? November 2024
What was your favorite thing about Lake Area Tech? My favorite thing about Lake Area Tech was all the friendships I made. I met so many people that I still to this day call my friends. The education and values that I obtained from Lake Area are something I will forever be grateful for.
What was the biggest lesson you learned at Lake Area Tech? The biggest lesson that I learned from Lake Area is that no one is responsible for your actions but yourself. Graduating from Cosmetology, we clocked in and out of school everyday. If you missed any school, that meant you went longer. I was ready to start my career. I graduated first in my class with perfect attendance. You get out of it what you put into it!
What made you want to continue your education? I think it’s important to get a degree. Even if you think you don’t need it and that you know everything already, you’ll be surprised to know that the connections you make and the people you learn from that have been in the industry are something that you cannot get if you don’t invest in yourself and get a degree.
What advice would you give a current Lake Area Tech student? My advice to a current student is don’t be mediocre. Push yourself and put yourself out there. Ask all the questions! The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask..
What makes you proud to be an Alumni of Lake Area Tech? I am proud to tell people that I went to Lake Area Tech because it is a school that speaks for itself. Coming back and touring the school with my son left me speechless. I couldn’t believe how big it had gotten and the improvements it continues to make. You can also tell that everyone that works there is proud of their job and exudes that same enthusiasm through their work.
What advice can you give to Lake Area Tech students that will be entering the workforce? My advice is don’t settle for good enough. If you think you have something that can contribute to making a company better then go for it and prove it to them AND yourself. Go for the GOLD.
