WATERTOWN, SD – Three first-year students in Lake Area Technical College’s Law Enforcement program were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the South Dakota Peace Officers’ Association. SDPOA First Vice President David Miller and Past President John Wollman presented the scholarships at an awards ceremony held this week on the campus of Lake Area Tech to Megan Long, Waverly, SD; Bobbie Ann Sullivan, Grenville, SD; and Samantha Torguson, Huron, SD.
The scholarships are the result of a stipulation-free donation from FirstNet with AT&T to the SDPOA scholarship fund. In addition to the scholarship, a one-year membership is included for each of the scholarship recipients to the South Dakota Peace Officers’ Association. Each student will also have the opportunity to attend the association’s annual conference.
The SDPOA is a statewide organization that provides a unified forum for all enforcement officers. It can provide support for officers, agencies, and associations in endeavors that will benefit law enforcement and can provide a means for all officers to express support or concern on topics that affect everyone.
